- Advocated for and sought state-wide support for expanded Mental Health Department facilities and services
Biography



I am the son of an Air Force Sergeant father and an elementary school teacher mother. With my brother and sister, we lived in several places in the United States until my father was stationed at Castle AFB in 1967. I have made Merced my home ever since.
I attended Merced High, Merced College, UC Berkeley, and CSU Stanislaus. I served two years in the United States Army.
My college sweetheart Rita Arzamendi and I have been married for over 42 years. We raised our two children, Melissa and Travis in Merced. Both of them continue to live and work in Merced County. I worked in human services for Merced County and Madera County.
I served as City Councilman and Mayor for the City of Merced.
